DogBasics has a blog!

I've been meaning to add a blog to DogBasics for years, but never got around to it until now. I will try to write every day.

I hope you will help me with the blog by commenting on the site, blog, videos, pictures, training, etc.

Hello Caroline,

Just wondered if you could help. Tricks has completely gone off his puppy food? He has started to eat our older dogs food. We have removed this from his reach but he walks up to his own bowl, sniffs it and walks away. Any ideas?

P.s - looking forward to basic obedience!

It isn't strange for them to go off their food. Puppies can be really fickle about their food. That is another reason I like Naturediet, because i can change the flavour for them every once in a while, so they don't get bored.

If you refuse him treats and food for a day or so, he'll start eating his own food eventually. You just have to stay strong!

What food is Tricks on? He's about 5-6 months now? Food from some manufacturers are designed for the puppy to move up to adult food at 6 months, so check if this is the case with Tricks food. Maybe you could let him eat the same food as your older dog now.

I'm looking forward to your Basic Obedience classes too! Such a fantastic group!

Had this problem once with my dog, she's older and wiser now. I put the bowl down, she looked at it, looked at me, walked away. I lifted the bowl up put it out of sight and out of smell and didn't put it out until her next feed. She ate is as soon as it went down. She tried it again a couple of days later and i repeated the removing.
Just a point here, if your feeding a complete dry food might be worth adding a little water in the morning and we make chicken stock ever couple of weeks, freeze it into ice cubes and melt a couple down for the evening feed.
